Adarsh College, Rajdhanwar is situated at Dhanwar-Suriya Road in Giridih district. This College was established in the year 1973 by the local people and founder Late Punit Roy (Ex. M.L.A.) of Dhanwar Assembly constituency. This area was an educationally backward one where majority of people came from SC/ST/OBC and Minority community. In the beginning this college was functioning in a campus of S. S. High School, Dhanwar (Giridih). Now this college has emerged as one of strong pillars of higher education for girls and boys on the basis of its achievement. This college is 65 Kms. away from the district headquarter ie, Giridih. The motto of the institution is to provide quality education to first generation learners of rural areas with weak economic base.
Shree Nakul Choudhary was the founder Principal of this College. In the year 1982, Affiliation was granted up to Degree level in Arts by the Ranchi University for the subjects:- Hindi, Sanskrit, Political Science, History, Economics, English, Urdu, Philosophy, Geography etc. The affiliation for the Science subjects which include physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Geology and Mathematics were granted in the year 1986 up to Degree level. The affiliation for the commerce subjects up to degree level was granted in the year 1986 and it was made a Constituent unit of Ranchi University in 1986. After the establishment of Vinoba Bhave, University, Hazaribag in 1992, This College came under its jurisdiction. The college is managed and funded by UGC and the state Govt. through Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag.
Local M.L.A. and M.P. have also contributed to the college through their local Area development fund. Dr. Rabindra Kumar Roy, a faculty member of this college has provided a bus to the college in the capacity of an MLA and also as an M.P.
